- This feature is only applicable to Google Search campaigns.
- For bulk operations on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Programmatic campaigns, check out bulk update Facebook ad group targeting, Bulk update LinkedIn ad group targeting, and bulk update Programmatic ad group targeting.
In XPO, you can bulk operate (i.e. add, remove, edit) on multiple ad groups for Google Search in one go.
- Under the Ad Group, select a campaign and then select one or more Search ad groups that you wish to update/edit.
- Click Edit. The dropdown list provides you with various targeting options (a) Settings, (b) Audience, (c) Technology, and (d) Content
- Click Save to submit your bulk update requests to our automated system. A link will be shared for you to check the status of your bulk updates. It will take a few seconds to minutes for the review.
(a) Update Ad Group Settings
Here, you can change ad group(s) details:
- Name
- Ad details
- Start & end date
- Budget
- Bid strategy
- Bid value
- Ad rotation
- Tracking templates and
- Any custom parameters you want to set
(b) Update Targeting Option - Audience
These are the targeting options that you can change:
(i) Audience Segments
- From the Audience option, select Audience Segments to add/edit/remove a segment for the selected Search ad groups.
- Click on +Audiences to get the list of all audiences created under this account.
- From the selected ad groups in step 1, you can now filter the ad group(s) for which you wish to add a particular audience segment(s) for and the changes will reflect for the selected ad groups only. You can make respective bid adjustments too.

You can Include / Exclude the segments accordingly.
(ii) Day & Time
- Update the day and time for multiple ad groups here.
- Opt for either All days or Working hours, the changes of which will reflect on the selected ad groups, or select them manually.
(iii) Detailed Audience Targeting
- From the Audience option, select Detailed Targeting to add/edit/remove a segment for the selected Search ad groups.
- You can add detailed targeting as Observation or Targeting to narrow the audience pool for multiple ad groups here.
- You can add/remove Affinity and In-Market audiences under Include/Exclude segments. Set bid adjustments for the segments too.
(iv) Demographics
- From this section, you can Include/Exclude the segments under Age, Gender, or Household Income for the multiple Search ad groups.
- Set bid adjustments for these segments in a single action here.
- The number of segments added to the selected ad groups will be displayed.
(v) Geography / Geolocation
- You can add/remove locations to multiple ad groups from here. You will not be able to remove all locations. Having at least one location is mandatory.
- You can edit the bid adjustments for multiple locations added to the ad groups.
- You can import geo-lists, which were created using Search as a channel.
- You can Include/Exclude the added locations.
- This bulk edit option is available only if the selected Search ad groups campaign has checked the check box option "Do not apply daily budget to ad groups".
(vi) Keywords
- You can add/remove Search keywords from multiple ad groups and Edit/change the keyword match types for multiple keywords here.
- Click +Add to Add, Upload, Import Keyword Lists, and Add Search Phrases.
- Click Action to Pause, Resume, Remove, Change keyword type, Change keyword text, Change max CPC bid, Change final URLs, Change tracking templates, Change custom parameters, and Change include settings.
(c) Update Targeting Option - Technology(i) Devices
- Update device settings for multiple ad groups from here.
- Click Action to make edits to bid adjustments for devices added.
- If the selected ad groups do not have a specific device setting, by default, all devices will be selected for the ad groups.
(d) Update Targeting Option - Content(i) Creatives
- Link/unlink creative(s) for multiple ad groups here.
- The + Link Creative list consists of all creatives created in the selected Account for the same Adwords Account.
- The tag displayed will specify the type of creative format.
- You can add/edit Tracking Templates and Custom Parameters to the creatives linked to these selected ad groups.
- If the selected ad groups already have a few linked creatives, you can choose to unlink the same.
(ii) Extensions
- Link/unlink extension(s) for multiple ad groups here.
- All the extensions linked to the selected ad groups will be displayed.
(iii) Languages
- Update/add/remove languages for multiple ad groups here.
- If the selected ad groups have few languages selected, you can choose to remove them.
- Add new languages manually which will then reflect in the selected ad groups.
- This bulk edit option is available only if the selected Search ad groups campaign has checked the check box option "Do not apply daily budget to ad groups".

Once you click Save, your bulk update requests will be processed for review. A link will be shared for you to check the status of your bulk updates.
- Bulk update targeting options will be made available only when ALL selected ad groups are Search ad groups. If not, the below error will pop up.
- Bulk update targeting options will be available for your standard Search ad groups including Dynamic Search ad groups.
- For Universal App Install (UAC) ad groups, you will only be able to bulk update Creative Targeting options, however, you will not be able to remove a creative once it's linked.
